Human Rights

After World War Two New Zealand led the world in advocating for international human rights at the UN. New Zealand not only pushed for political and civil rights but also economic, social and cultural rights.

What's New

Jobs and democracy at stake with fire-at-will bill: Greens

National’s bid to push its 90-day bill through under urgency this week is a disgraceful attack on both workers’ rights and on democracy. Green Party Industrial Relations Spokesperson Sue Bradford says legislation of this significance should go through the full select committee process.

More to do on 60th anniversary of human rights declaration

Green Party MP Keith Locke says New Zealand still has several human rights challenges 60 years after it signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Tomorrow, December 10, is the Universal Declaration’s 60th anniversary.

We’re here to progress sustainability, justice, peace and democracy: Address in Reply speech, Dr Russel Norman, 9 Dec 08

The Green Party has a vision of Aotearoa New Zealand as a place where people respect each other and the natural world that we share. It is a vision of our country as a healthy, peaceful and diverse place.

Council homeless law not the answer: Greens

Auckland City Council's plan to create a new bylaw to force homeless people out of the city is pointless and cruel, the Green Party says.

"Even the police are questioning the necessity for a new law aimed at moving rough sleepers out of the central city," Auckland-based Green MP and Housing Spokesperson Sue Bradford says.

Green change we need
